Importance of pre-school education

A child growing in society. A child has a lot of ambition. So they are very fast learners in their childhood. They are learning a lot of things when living in the environment. Parents are the first learner for the child. Parents' every moment magnifies the child. Their attractive good habits attract the child. At the same time, their bad behavior also connects to their mind.

In Sri Lanka, every person needs to study their basic education until 16 years old. Every child starts their educational life from their birth. For world education, they start from 03 or 04 years old. That is called pre-education. Pre-education is very important in every life. Every child is studying the world in this period.

Every child has learned the words, colours, things, miracles and everything. This time is very important to people to develop their talent and knowledge. A child can't be the topper in knowledge.

All children have the right to education. Every child should be helped to achieve his growth and development in a systematic way. Educators paid more attention to children's early years. In a child's development, the first six years are imprintable. Because it is during this season that seeds are sown for basic justice, physical, social, mental, language and artistic development. Integral development in children can be explained in the following way.

Importance of Pre-School

  • According to the dictionary, a pre-school is an institution for primary education. It is a common place for parents. In which the children gather under the leadership of the teacher and spend their time together having fun and playing.
  • Preschool is not a place for formal education. It is a place where children first feel (experience) their independence. In today's age, with both parents working, pre-school is an inevitable part of children's lives. Separating children from their parents for a few hours can avoid separation anxiety when talking about children's independence.
  • In these schools, they are trained and exposed to all the basic learning methods of pre-school, so they develop a sense of independence quickly. Some of the processes done in this school help the children develop basic activities, such as self-feeding, dressing, maintaining cleanliness, etc.
  • Learning experiences like these at school help children develop basic behaviors such as exchanging greetings, sharing their food and toys, and protecting their belongings. Interacting with other children of their age and learning new words helps them to develop language quickly.
  • Playschools prepare children with confidence and individuality to move on to bigger schools.
  • In a good pre-school where the child teacher ratio is properly maintained, play is given more importance and its necessity is realized. Pre-school must be a good one, as it is a well-lit lamp to guide ignorant children.

Objectives of Preschool

  • To promote good physical development in children, and development of muscle coordination and motor skills.
  • Helping children to develop good hygiene habits and perform personal activities such as eating, toileting, hand washing, grooming, dressing well etc.
  • Helping children express, understand, accept and control their emotions in a mature way.
  • Being a catalyst to express an artistic feeling.
  • To create an environment where they can stimulate their thirst for knowledge and curiosity to understand, research and discover the world they live in.
  • To develop children's skills and be able to articulate and express their thoughts and feelings appropriately.
  • Preschool engages children in activities such as drawing, gardening, etc. to help them learn the right and honest thoughts like trust, love, security, achievement, resilience, etc. and express them in a formal way.
  • A good pre-school should give children the opportunity to express their artistic sensibilities, explore colors, balance, take pleasure trips to enjoy natural beauty, or walk near places of artistic beauty.
