Society has been modernized. But, many villages are facing childhood marriages taking place nowadays. This is the main problem in the village.
According to the act of Sri Lanka, it is a crime if a person or two marry at a young age and does not fulfill the age of 18. A child marriage is strictly prohibited by law. Importantly, child marriage affects young girls rather than young boys.
The civil war has been in Sri Lanka for 30 years. Now the war is over. But people who live in poverty suffer because of food. Even if the government makes some facilities to them, they suffer for food. Thus, one member of the family is responsible for another. On that basis, childhood marriages are made in some homes normally without proper knowledge.
Childhood marriages take place without considering age for children's food. They are prepared for marriage at a young age. They are made responsible for family responsibilities. This is the wrong way.
Childhood boys are not ready for family life. Their life is put in question by child-aged marriages. This situation continues today in many parts of Sri Lanka. This is the reason why the public has no proper clarity on this issue.
According to a study based on research in some villages in Sri Lanka, some important issues have been identified. They are the following:
01. Many of the boys living in villages have suspended their school education.
02. Some minor people wander looking for a suitable job.
03. Many minor females are married at an early age and get pregnant. A few minor children are the mothers of the baby.
04. Many courts in childhood marriages have been taken and ended in divorce.
05. Wandering on the street without food.
So we need to control this situation. The leadership of the community must take care of it, and the appropriate parties should be informed about this. If you do so, there will be changes in society. People will get clarity.
The youngest people are future leaders. Their talent is essential to society. A childhood marriage will affect their future life and all endeavors.
The best laws and orders have been created to protect children in our country. They are walking. Childhood marriage is a punishable offense in many countries, including Sri Lanka. The average age to marry in Sri Lanka has increased. In 2006, the average marriage age limit for men was 27 - 28 years. Women's marriage age was also 24 - 25 years. But this situation has changed and discreaed for 18 years old.
Even though children live in villages, they are capable of handling communication devices. It can also be observed that these communication devices. This is also a feature of early marriage.
In a report released by UNICEF, the number of childhood marriages has increased in Sri Lanka. It has been pointed out that the main reason for this is the family's economy and lack of sufficient knowledge.
Appropriate measures should be taken to eliminate child marriages in all districts of Sri Lanka. It has been pointed out in research that it is necessary for the authorities to pay attention to child marriage.
