01. International School:
A group of British Independent Schools is exploring the feasibility of starting an international school in the port city of Colombo. For this, senior delegations from 03 leading independent schools in Britain have discussed with Colombo Port City Economic Commission and senior management officials.
These schools are considered to be the most prestigious schools in the world. Establishing a school with internationally recognized educational facilities in the port city of Colombo, which is growing as a friendly city in South Asia, is said to be a great opportunity to improve the educational quality of the country's children and create an internationally competitive team.
The Government of Sri Lanka has signed an agreement with the Global Green Development Corporation to advance Sri Lanka's climate change action and strengthen Sri Lanka's green development.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe and former UN Secretary General and President of the General Assembly and President of the Global Green Development Institute Ban Ki Moon.
03. Resigned from Chairman post of the Institute of Transport Medicine:
Dr. Shavendra Gamage, chairman of the National Institute of Transport Medicine, has resigned from his post.
In his letter, he pointed out that after being appointed as the chairman of the company, he contributed a lot to the welfare of the company and decided to resign due to disagreement between the minority employees and officers.
While the government has stopped public service allowances, including medical leave allowance for the employees of this company in 2022, these employees have raised a strong protest demanding the payment of those allowances. The chairman pointed out in the letter that, considering the existing situation, the pay circulars for those employees have been reserved.
Director General of the Central Cultural Fund, Prof. Kamini Ranasinghe has said that the 'Cold House' where King Kasiappa lived in Sigiriya will be opened for domestic and foreign tourists from next March. It is said that this palace was used by King Kasyappa during the period of prosperity.
05. Vision 2030 Program of Saudi Arabia:
Last year, the government of Saudi Arabia launched a space program called 'Vision 2030'. It selects and trains soldiers for short and long space missions. In 2019, the United Arab Emirates will send humans into space. With this, Saudi Arabia became the first Arab country to send humans into space.
Saudi Arabia is preparing to send a female athlete into space for the first time. Saudi Arabian media reported that 4 people, including Saudi Arabian astronaut Rayana Barnawi and fellow astronaut Ali Alkarni, will join the A-X-2 space mission.
06. Announcement to sell the 'Heart Shaped Island':
Part of a heart-shaped island in Croatia has been advertised for sale. The heart-shaped Adriatic island is known as the Island of Love by tourists. It is said that more than a million photographs are taken of the island in and around it every year. Although there are no hotels or villas on the island, tourists do come. The owner of the 1.42,000 square meter island has said that he wants to sell up to 40,000 square meters for 13 million Euros.
07. 05th Republic Perahera:
The 05th Republic Perahera was held in Kandy on march 19, 2023 after 34 years at the historic 'Sree dhalatha Palace'. The event has been organized in conjunction with the 75th Independence Day celebrations and will be inaugurated by the President.
Sri Lanka's tea exports have fallen by 9.4 percent this year compared to 2022. It is noteworthy that in January 2022 this amount was recorded as 19.38 million kg.
09. Migratory Bird Park & Tourism Zone:
Sri Lanka's first Diaspora Bird Park and Ecotourism Zone will be inaugurated at Kandy Handanai. The park, named as "Handanai International Bird Park and Recreation Centre", will be inaugurated by President Ranil Wickramasinghe tomorrow (20th) Monday at 03.00 pm. The park will be opened for public viewing from 23rd.
The 27-acre Migratory Bird Park and Ecotourism Zone located near the Handanai Tea Museum complex is home to more than a hundred migratory birds. The park includes exotic birds, migratory birds, etc., and has a unit for treating and releasing injured birds. Established at a cost of 490 million rupees, the bird park houses exotic birds in large cages. About a hundred workers are engaged in maintaining them.
