India is celebrating their 74th Republic Day on 26th January, 2023. Republic Day is celebrated every year at Rajpathi in Delhi by the Government of India. This year the Republic Day celebrations are to be celebrated on the renovated Path of Duty (earlier Rajapath) at the Centris Vista Project. President Draupadi Murmu will hoist the national flag on the occasion.
02. New Prime Minister:
Chris Hipkins was sworn in in 2023, 26th January, after New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern stepped down.
03. Website Introduced:
A new government website has been introduced to find out the phone number of any Village Sevak, Samurthi Adhikari, Development Officer in Sri Lanka.

04. Exhibition:
On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, the Department of National Archives, Central Cultural Fund, Department of Archeology and Department of Museums are planning to organize a free exhibition. Arrangements have been made to hold the said exhibition at the National Museum on February 4th and 5th of February.
05. Sri Lanka's highest award:
On the occasion of Independence Day, former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya will be presented with the 'Sri Lanka Bimanya' award by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
06. U19 Women's Cup:
Team India won the Under-19 Women's World Cup. The Indian women's team won the World Cup by beating England by 7 wickets in the final.
07. Advisory committee:
Olympic silver medalist Susanthika Jayasinghe has been appointed as the consultant of the Sri Lankan women's cricket team.

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Group, has risen to the top spot in the list of Asia's richest people.
09. Playback singer Vani Jayaram died:
Famous film playback singer 'Vani Jayaram' passed away at the age of 78. Vani Jayaram has sung many songs that remain in her heart and has sung more than 10 thousand songs in 19 languages. He has sung in many Indian languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
10. Pakistan's former president, Pervesh Musharraf, died:
Pakistan's former president Pervesh Musharraf, who was suffering from health problems for a long time, passed away today (05) at the age of 79. It is noteworthy that he was the one who overthrew the Nawaz Sharif regime in Pakistan in 1999 through a military coup.
11. The elderly population of Srilanka:
Sri Lanka's elderly population is expected to increase to 21% by 2030, according to the National Council on Aging. Sri Lanka's elderly population is 14.6% of the total population. This was pointed out in the 2020 report of the National Council on Aging presented in Parliament.
12. Appointment of High court judge in Sri Lanka:
Justice KP Penando has been appointed as the High Court Judge after the retirement of High Court Judge L. R. P. Tehithenia.
13. Guinness Record of Dog:
A dog from Portugal has lived more than 30 years and entered the Guinness Book of Records. The puppy has been declared the world's "oldest dog". Bobby, 30, from Spike, a 23-year-old Chihuahua, set the Guinness World Record for the longest-living dog in the world in January.
14. Chief Editor of Magazine:
Since 1887, as a part of the Harvard Law School operating in the United States, a magazine providing legal information has been published by students studying law. It has the largest readership worldwide. Hence, it is leading in sales as well. Apsara Iyer, an Indian American, has been duly elected as its 137th President. This is the first time in its 136-year history that an Indian-American has assumed this prestigious role.
15. Change of Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine:
It has been a few weeks since Russia launched a war on Ukraine, and it has been decided to remove the commander-in-chief of the country, Oleksiy Reznikov, and appoint a new person for that responsibility. The transition of Oleksiy, who is known to be very close to President Zelensky, is expected to make a huge difference in the war in Ukraine.
